Long Overdue Update

The last time I posted something was shortly before the half marathon
event in January. In case you were wondering whether I got lost along
the way or fainted before reaching the finish line, none of those
things occurred. I finished in 2 hours and 52 minutes, and recovered
fairly quickly. I've continued enjoying jogging, though I've scaled
back my distance to 5-6 miles on the weekend and a couple 3-milers
during the week.
It's not until today until I figured out how to post a message on my
blog, which a family member set up for me last Fall. So, now I have no
excuse. I will try to update this more regularly, to keep you posted
on what's going on in my life.
Two weeks ago, I placed third at a state-wide Toastmasters speech
competition; and, in less than two weeks, my ministry partner James
and I are headed for the San Francisco bay area to minister at rescue
missions and other recovery programs. Taking a little time off from
work right now, to spend some time with my younger son, Micah, while
he and his girl-friend are visiting us from New York.

PF Changs Rock 'n Roll Marathon

Dear Friends;

I hope you had a very blessed Christmas
and that you were able to enjoy some
precious time with family and/or friends.
As we set our sights on the new year,
I'm setting my sight on the finish line
- that is, the end of a half marathon.
On January 17th, I will be participating
in PF Chang's annual rock 'n roll marathon
event, running the 13.1 miles.
Besides using this as motivation to get
in better shape, I'm also using it to make
a public statement that blind people can
participate equally in any activities.
Furthermore, I'm using it as a fundraiser
for the National Federation of the Blind.
Any funds raised will be split 3 ways,
going towards NFB's west valley chapter,
Arizona's scholarship fund and the state's
general fund. If you're interested in
contributing, please make out a check to
NFB West Valley, and send it to my home address:

Marc Schmidt
3202 W. Muriel Dr
Phoenix, AZ 85053

Thank you for your support,
Marc
